Racism Kills, 2020
Commissioned by NE Sculpture Gallery Factory for the Social Justice Billboard Project, Luis Fitch created “Racism Kills” as a profound artistic response to the tragic murder of George Floyd. Displayed prominently at George Floyd Square, Minneapolis, this billboard became a poster and powerful symbol of community resilience and a collective demand for justice. Through Fitch’s impactful wheat paste posters, the artwork continues to challenge viewers to confront and dismantle systemic racism.

Lucha for Change (Obama vs. McCain), 2008
“Lucha for Change” brilliantly captures the intersection of art and politics. Conceived during the heated 2008 presidential campaign and displayed at the NE Sculpture Gallery Factory, this visually dynamic poster humorously depicts a Lucha libre wrestling match between Barack Obama and John McCain, symbolizing their battle for the presidency. Fitch’s vibrant design highlighted the voices and perspectives of Minnesota’s Hispanic community, which has traditionally been marginalized in political narratives.

Both pieces now proudly reside in the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s permanent collection, exemplifying how art serves as a catalyst for social commentary, activism, and transformation.

Celebrate these groundbreaking additions to Mia’s collection, and let art inspire us to reflect, resist, and envision a brighter, more inclusive future.
